A resident of Sector 15 died in an accident near the Chandigarh Club in Sector 1 late on Friday night. The accident took place when a Volvo car (CH 04-F-0217) rammed into the Maruti, in which Saroj Bajaj (55) was sitting on the rear seat.

Her husband Rajinder Bajaj was driving the car when the collision took place at 10.30 pm. Saroj was rushed to the PGI, where she succumbed to her injuries.

The driver of the Volvo, Raj Pati Yadav, has been arrested for causing death due to negligence under Section 304 A of the IPC. The police said Yadav was heavily drunk when the accident took place. The Volvo is owned by advocate Punit Bali, son of retired judge V K Bali. Both the cars were completely damaged in the accident. A case has been registered in Sector 3 police station .
