Woman gives birth on road

A woman gave birth outside Marine Lines station on Maharishi Karve Marg. The LT Marg police rushed the mother and the child to a hospital on Saturday night. Pedestrians noticed the girl,Rakha Razaur Maksal (23),on the road with a newborn baby lying near her.

The LT Marg police got there at around 12:45 am and took her and the baby to GT Hospital. Unfortunately the baby was declared dead before arrival. Maksal is presently stable and is recuperating in Cama and Albless Hospital. The police have not taken a statement from her yet. She may be a Bangladeshi immigrant.

“When Maksal was found by our officers she had already given birth to the child,” said M Chunekar of the LT Marg police. “We believe she had given birth to the child at least an hour before we reached the spot. Unfortunately they child died,as it seemed premature. As soon as we can speak to her we will find where she is from and who the child’s father is,” added Chunekar.
