A 37-year-old woman who went to file a missing person report about her husband on Monday was arrested on Wednesday, along with her 23-year-old friend and an accomplice, for his murder about a month back.
Manju was annoyed with her husband Dinesh Kumar Joshi as he was a habitual drunkard and used to beat her and other family members. He had sold his flat and other household articles to finance his alcoholism, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer) Chhaya Sharma said. Meanwhile,Manju became close to her landlords son Lekhraj who used to help her financially, said the DCP. On June 16,Manju left her inebriated husband with Lekhraj, who, along with his friend Deepak Sharma (27),took him to a vacant plot in Rohini Sector 23 on a two-wheeler and killed him. They then smashed his face with a stone.
A few days later,Manju allegedly called up her sister-in-law Seema and told her that Dinesh had left her at Sector-5,Rohini on June 16 and not returned. Seema told her to wait for sometime as Dinesh used to be away for days without informing anyone. When he did not return till July 12,they came to the Vijay Vihar police station to file a missing person report. There they saw a hue and cry notice on the board and identified it as that of Dinesh, Sharma said.
During investigations,it also came to light that Manju was not interested in lodging the report about her husband and that she was close to Lekhraj,Sharma said. Her children said their father was last seen with Lekhraj. The woman and Lekhraj were questioned and they confessed to the crime, Sharma said.
