Woman’s body found stuffed in jute bag

A thirty-year-old woman who had been missing from Ghatkopar since Monday was found dead in Mulund on Tuesday morning. She had been stabbed and the body was stuffed into a jute sack, the police said.

Mulund police identified the deceased as Pratiksha Bhojane, mother of three who used to work as a help. She stayed with her children in Bhatwadi, Ghatkopar.

Police said the body was found by sweepers at work on N S Road, Mulund. They called the police control room and the information was relayed to the Mulund police station. A team was rushed to the spot.

Police circulated a description of the body to all police stations in Mumbai and by Tuesday afternoon got a response from the Ghatkopar police, who had registered a missing person's complaint in Pratiksha's name on Monday. Officers from the Ghatkopar police station, accompanied by Pratiksha's sister, reached the Rajawadi Hospital where her body had been taken for post-mortem.

"Pratiksha's sister identified the body. She had left for work on Monday morning as per her schedule but never returned.

Her neighbours would watch over her two daughters and son while she was at work and when she did not return at her usual time, they tried to find her. When that failed, they registered a missing person's complaint," said inspector Rajkumar Kothmire, Ghatkopar police station.

An officer with the Mulund police added that Pratiksha had been stabbed several times in the stomach and that there were also indications of strangulation. The police have registered a complaint of murder against unidentified persons and are conducting further investigations.
