A 25-year-old woman burnt alive her three-year-old daughter and later set herself ablaze at Rang Avdhoot society in Varachha area of the city on Monday.

The girl was physically and mentally challenged, which might have led the woman to take this extreme step, the Varachha police said.

The deceased were identified as Kajal Sawani and her daughter Pryanshi.

According to the details of the case, Kajal’s neighbours spotted something burning inside the house in the morning, following which they broke open its main door. They found the mother-daughter duo lying with severe burn injuries and immediately took them to the SMIMER Hospital, where the two were declared dead on arrival.

After preliminary investigations, the police said Kajal was tensed over her daughter’s disabilities.

Her husband, Bharat, works in a diamond firm as a manager.
