A 36-year-old housewife was stabbed to death at her flat in Dongri on Monday morning allegedly by a 23-year-old plumber. The accused, Mohammed Shatir Sheikh, was nabbed by the public and the police while he was trying to flee the spot. The victim, Nisrin Indorewala, succumbed to injuries while undergoing treatment at the JJ Hospital. The police booked Sheikh for murder. According to the Dongri police, the incident happened at around 8.15 am on Monday when the victim’s husband Asif Indorewala had gone to drop their 10-year-old son at his school.
“At around 8.15 am, the Indorewala’s neighbour Murtuza Udyanwala heard the victim’s screams and immediately rushed to her flat. The safety door of the flat was latched and the inner door was partially open. Through the crack, he saw a youth attacking Indorewala with a knife. He immediately raised an alarm and the youth ran into another room. Soon, Udyanwala rushed back to his house. From his balcony, he spotted the youth speedily descending the scaffolding that was erected as part of the ongoing construction in the building,” said Police Inspector Avinash Kanade who is investigating the case.
“Udyanwala alerted the pedestrians on the road as well as other residents of the building about the incident and the youth. While trying to flee, the youth was nabbed by the public and officials of a beat marshall. He was immediately detained by the police. The youth said his name is Mohammed Shatir Sheikh and claimed to be a plumber. However, we are yet to ascertain the motive behind the crime. We are yet to figure out whether he was known to the family or not,” said Kanade.
