Women cops out to spirit away revellers on a high

Nearly 50 women police personnel,including from battalions of the State Reserve Police Force,would be posted across the city on December 31. The city traffic police too will deploy 10 women constables in important traffic zones.

These women police personnel have been asked to spare no girls or women who are found drunk or creating a ruckus.

ACP (Women Police) Sudha Pandey said,We will take action and even arrest women who are found drunk. Liquor is banned in Gujarat and like men,women too will be booked if they consume alcohol.

The city police have probably taken lessons from the incident in November when a girl,in an inebriated state,created a ruckus at Sukhsagar Complex in Usmanpura. The police reportedly had to drag the girl to the Naranpura police station but there were no women police personnel to accompany the girl. The girl later hurled abuses at the policemen.

The police say such cases are no more rare in Ahmedabad. We will ensure women constables in all such partying areas. We have given them breath analysers, Joint Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Satish Sharma said.

We have formed special teams under DCPs to raid liquor parties. A woman constable will be part of these teams, he added.

Women police would be deployed in greater numbers in Zone I,where major club houses,lounges and party plots are located.
