West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Wednesday clarified that the state government would not move the Supreme Court challenging Tuesdays verdict of the Calcutta High Court Division Bench asking the CBI to re-investigate the Rizwanur Rehman death after registering a murder case.

On Tuesday,Advocate General of West Bengal Bolai Roy had indicated that the state government might move the Supreme Court challenging the verdict.

In an interview to a local Bengali channel 24 Ghanta ahead of the municipal polls on Wednesday,Bhattacharjee said the state government was keen that the truth about Rizwanur Rehman death should come out. So,the government has finally decided that it would not contest the Division Bench verdict. Let the CBI inquiry bring out the truth, he told the news channel.

The order, coming a few days ahead of the municipal polls, has been a shot in the arm for Mamata Banerjees Trinamool Congress (TMC),which had launched a vigorous campaign against the accused and the state government alleging that attempts were on to suppress the truth.

Rukbanur Rehman,Rizwanurs brother,is a TMC candidate from the ward where the Rehman family stays and the TMC has largely been able to swing the urban Muslim votes in its favour. It was feared in the state government as well as in the CPM that the state governments move to challenge the High Court order would further alienate the community.

A senior CBI official said it had received an order sheet on Wednesday evening directing the CBI to start reinvestigation in the case. But no fresh murder case has been started yet.

Meanwhile,Ashok Todi, one of the key accused in the case, has decided to move the Supreme Court challenging the High Court order. Advocate Ayan Chakraborty,Todis counsel, told the media about his decision.
