  • The construction work on the Indo-Lankan 500 MW coal-fired power plant in Eastern Sri Lanka is expected to commence within the next three months. The proposed power plant in Veloor, near Nilaweli, in the country’s eastern district of Trincomalee will be a joint venture between India’s NTPC and Ceylon Electricity Board. The ministry of Power and Energy has indicated that the construction work of the said coal power plant will begin in three months’ time. The coal power plant is expected to provide 1000 MW to the national grid, with the first stage of the project targeted to provide 500 MW to the grid by 2012.
