World Cup Kabaddi: Indian men pull out a 'hat-trick', rout arch rivals Pakistan

The Indian men's kabbadi team lived up to their billing as the favourites to claim the World Cup Kabaddi for the third time in succession after defeating strong-contenders Pakistan, 59-22, in the finals at the Guru Nanak Stadium in Ludhiana. The men's team won a cash prize of Rs 1 crore.

The excitement started to build up right from the beginning. The Indian team maintained their winning momentum that helped them to reach the finals where they completely floored the Pakistani stoppers. Such was the Indian domination that Pakistan could score their first point only after India had already scored 10. At the end of the first half, the Indian team was way ahead by 17-2, and 33-9 during the half time. They further consolidated their lead with a reading of 46-16 at the second drinks break.

Indian players dominated right from the word go. With both the teams gunning for the title, tension sparked in the air as a few words were exchanged between the two sides. Both the teams sought action replays four times with appeals for fouls. During the play, one of the Indian stoppers dragged the Pakistan raider towards the place where the organisers were sitting. This action was objected to by the Pakistani team.

Interestingly, police sirens were being used after each point scored by the teams and the crowd cheered for both the teams with equal enthusiasm, showcasing exemplary sports-person spirit and appreciation of the players' efforts.

Meanwhile, dope tests of players were conducted before the game and it was announced that cash price will be given once the reports are out. There will be deduction in prize money if anyone is tested positive.

Sukhbir Badal, Deputy Chief Minister of Punjab, announced that from next year onwards the prize money for women will be increased to Rs 1 crore from Rs 51 lakhs.
