Once again, the Western Railway and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation are at loggerheads, this time over the issue of repairing the foot overbridges (FOBs). The Western Railway has identified around 19 foot overbridges between Bandra and Dahisar that need to be repaired.
The railway had given details of the repairs — estimated at Rs 1.5 crore — to the civic body, but the BMC authorities have sought details of money spent to maintain these in the past 10 years.
There are 19 FOBs on the Western line between Churchgate and Dahisar that belong to the BMC. These are maintained and repaired by the Railways with funds provided by the civic body.
According to WR sources, engineers of Railways and the BMC had jointly inspected 15 FOBs between October and March and submitted a report to the BMC.
Shyam Sunder Gupta, chief public relations officer, WR, said, “We had sent the technical and other details of repairs to the civic body in March this year. The estimated cost is Rs 1.5 crore.”
However, HC Maniar, deputy chief engineer (bridges, MUTP), BMC, said , “We have got the details of repairs sent by Railways but the BMC wants the account of funds spent to maintain these FOBs during the past 10 years. We have not got any reply from WR on this.”
