WTI fails to tranquilise tiger on loose for 3 months

A team of experts from the Wildlife Trust of India has not been able to tranquilise a 14-month-old tiger which strayed from the jungles of Pilibhit

A team of experts from the Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) has not been able to tranquilise a 14-month-old tiger which strayed from the jungles of Pilibhit into a 2.5 sq km stretch of thickets on the banks of Jhukna river,a tributary of Gomti in Puranpur area,and has been roaming there for more than three months.

The WTI team which is conducting operations since June 1,has not been able to dart the tiger which has cast terror in nearby villages.

Forest officials said these thickets are more than 7 km away from the Pilibhit jungles and there are five villages in the area. However,the tiger has not eaten any of the villagers animals till now and the forest guards have been deployed in the villages for keeping a vigil,said a forest official.

The 5 member team of WTI has conducted several operations with the help of two elephants from Dudhwa National Park and their mahouts,but has not been able to tranquilise the tiger.

According to the forest officials,the tiger has eaten many goats which were used as baits to bring it to a point where it could be tranquilised.
