  • Following the uproar created by Virender Sehwag’s threat to quit Delhi, the state cricket association is likely to name a new-look selection committee for the forthcoming season.

India selector from the north zone Yashpal Sharma is tipped to take over from Chetan Chauhan as the chairman of the selectors, with four of the five members of the last committee, including Chauhan, likely to be replaced. Bantoo Singh, Rajkumar Sharma and Anil Jain are the other members of the selection panel set to face the axe. Chauhan was the only member of the panel that the players did not have a problem with, but sources said the DDCA would find it hard to accomodate both him and Yashpal together, as the two have had trouble working together in the past.

Vinay Lamba, Hari Gidwani, K Bhaskar Pillai and Robin Singh jr are the names that have been touted as possible replacements, with only Nikhil Chopra likely to remain.

“The new panel will be put in place by the first week of September. This is the most logical thing to do, especially as Yashpal is an India selector,” a DDCA source said.

When contacted Sharma said: “I have not been approached. I will first speak to the BCCI before taking it up as I am employed with them.”
