Abe is right in wanting to make Japan a "normal nation" nearly seven decades after its defeat in World War II. How he goes about it is the real question. For its part, India has supported, since the days of Jawaharlal Nehru, the comprehensive reintegration of Japan into the international system. Delhi has fond memories of Abe's role, during his earlier tenure as prime minister in 2006-07, in laying a strong foundation for strategic partnership with Japan. His political resurrection provides a valuable opportunity to take the bilateral ties to the next level.
