Hubli, September 23: : Karnataka has become a 'safe haven for terrorists' and it has come to light that medical and engineering students are involved in terrorist activities, Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa said on Tuesday.

"The state has become a safe haven for terrorists, especially Bangalore, Hubli, Dharwad and the coastal region," he told reporters in Hubli.

In view of this, the Government is keeping a "close watch" and many Pakistanis and Bangladeshis who are overstaying in the state following expiry of visa are now being identified for deportation, he said.

CENTRAL TEAM REVIEWS SECURITY OF CHURCHES

A Central team deputed to review security measures taken in the aftermath of attacks on churches in Karnataka arrived here today to assess the situation.

The team led by Special Secretary (Internal Security) M L Kumawat held discussions with state police officials and obtained details about the attacks.

The delegation comprising Union Home Ministry Joint Secretary A K Yadav visited Kulashekara church, Fr Muller Institutions at Kankanadi and Milagres church, which bore the brunt of the attacks on September 14.

Kumawat refused to talk to media persons saying "we have just begun our visit".

As the central team arrived for review, Karnataka Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa criticised the UPA government's move asserting that the "law and order situation is very good".

"What is happening in Delhi? Everyday innocent people are being killed by terrorists. The Centre is keeping quiet, but sends letters to Karnataka", Yeddyurappa told media in Hubli apparently referring to the Centre's two warning advisories to it in the wake of attacks on churches.

"More than two crore Hindus who were forced out of Kashmir are on streets in Delhi and what action the Centre has taken to restore normalcy and ensure their return?" Yeddyurappa asked.

Sleeping Home Ministry wakes up by Raman V K on 2008-09-24 09:32:42.405688+05:30
It appears the Central Government of India feels obligated to take action in response to statements from Vatican and USA, than respond to Indians suffering due to terrorism. The swift action in sending a team to Karnataka is really surprising from an otherwise "sleeping (during terror) cell"

Yeddy, be careful, media is not with you by C.K.Sunil on 2008-09-24 09:07:26.700772+05:30
iSafe heaven for the terrorist. This the legacy of the congress /JDS rule in Karnataka and the UPA at the center. Yeddy. your mandate is for tackling this situation and make Karnataka safe haven for all peace loving citizen by rooting out extimists and terrorists from the society. People have (expect the congress/JDS leaders) great expectations from you and your govt. Keep the hard core sang parivar under check. There are so many peaceful ways to oppose convertion. Otherwise you will end up wasting your time pacifying church priests and bissops in Karnataka. Remember all media is against you and the majority community and they are with the socalled 'seculers'.It looks they do not bother even if 100% of the natives are converted to other faiths like what happened in USA and Canada!

All these attacks are done by Congress to de-fame BJP. Congress specialises in foul play. It is all to promote vote bank.
It's not just Karnataka by Raj on 2008-09-24 07:31:03.403374+05:30
It's absurd to say that Christians are luring the poor people and converting them on the name of religion. I am a hindu, however I would like to ask - does any hindu organization provides what the christian organizations does? If not, why are we stopping those poor people from getting the meals - even if this is done by converting to another religion?Unfortunately, we are so hypocrites and we pick the wrong guys to rule our country - be it congress or bjp or any other party. What we need is another revolution to cleanse the country from all politicians. We also need to cleanse the consitution. We need to put a plan to revamp India to meet global standards of living and security.Which political leader or party has such plans? I don't see any! That's the irony of India.
Well said Yediyurappa!!! by Rajesh on 2008-09-24 07:28:27.2011+05:30
Well said Yediyurappa. The RSS and its affiliate bodies are causing terror in Karnataka and destroying the cosial fabric of the state. After you came to power, the state has become a haven for these terrorists. I saw a comment about the victims of Delhi blast. Yes man, you are better. You have killed more people. Do not think that Christians are like you. They do not believe in a God who kills. They believe in a God who gives life. Your faith might be different. That is why you jsutify the attack on Christians.

Karnataka is breeding ground for terrorists because of hunting the innocent and protecting the culprits-a very well defined policy of the present government.
Bravo Yeedyyurappa for admitting the truth by R Prasad on 2008-09-24 02:47:28.654103+05:30

Terrorist Haven by A Pradeep on 2008-09-24 01:01:29.370379+05:30
Forget the blame game. here is a simple solution.. Make it a crime to offer incentives to convert to another religion. Deport all foreign nationals who have overstayed. Punish those who are responsible for property damage. Resettle Kasmiri Hindus in Kahmir with full security. Infact open up Kashmir for all Indians to settle in if they so desire. Stop all the bickering and political manouvering.
Kashmir issue by Rahul on 2008-09-24 00:20:54.117028+05:30
Wasn't Kashmir kept under president's rule to resolve this? Is he suggesting the same for Karnataka?
Safe for Licensed Lathis by Nasiruddin on 2008-09-23 23:59:21.923345+05:30
It is a safe heaven, yes I do agree that it is becoming that but parallelly to the sangh parivar who are roaming freely as if the state has become there personal property after the BJP govt took charge. The act of attacking churches is more than the terrorist acivities so far. Can some one prove that this is not a open licensed terrorist acitivity. Why blame other?

Is there no Indian identity? by Indian on 2008-09-23 22:32:38.938984+05:30
By saying that "we" have been here for hundred of years etc,etc only denotes the fact that non-major communities perceive themselves to be different than the ethos of the country.
K'taka safe haven for terrorists: Yeddyurappa by Derek on 2008-09-23 22:08:57.277822+05:30
What else is new? The CM and the BJP government of Karnataka are terrorists too and there should be a probe against their agenda. Re: the probe into the burning and desecration of churches in the state, we dont expect any outcome, since it was government sponsored.
Increase in GDP and par capita income can not gloss over the dangerous consequences of increasingly huge gap of wealth distribution and almost total failure of our civic society. by Jay on 2008-09-23 21:44:10.546124+05:30
General public, common workers have lost faith on the system. Due to age old practice by businessmen and industrialists to use intimidation, force and collusion with govt officials, police, criminals and politicians they cheat workers; give false, fabricated financial data while filing tax and deciding the salary and other benefits of common workers, deprive general public a safe, civic life. Many industrialists force its work force to work in dangerous conditions. Such practices are more prevalent in places like places in North India. Almost everyone is provoked to take laws in their own hands. None has any faith left on the whole system. Urban terrorism, extremist movements allover India, killing of CEO in Noida is just the tip of the huge iceberg. Unless we acknowledge the problem, we can never solve it. Army, police can not do it.
Evil and Intolerant Christianity by Bhudev on 2008-09-23 21:16:32.684917+05:30
History will record Christian missionaries as Social and Cultural Terrorists who are fascist and intolerant of others belief, same as what the Islamic terrorism is today. Already, Christians are looked upon with suspicion and distrust for their deception and motivated agenda. Remember, they have no other agenda except to eliminate other beliefs. If anyone thinks that they are for any good to society, see Africa where they wiped off the whole native culture and replaced it with theirs. What upliftment did they do to them? None! One should read the Tehelka expose where the Bush government in the past eight years has in the name of social upliftment funneled billions of dollars to these right wing Christian organizations to commit cultural murder and mayhem across the globe. These missionaries are digging their own graves by disturbing the peace and tranquility of Hindu religion.
HINDUS WILL NOT ALLOW NORTH EAST STYLE CHRISTIAN TERROR IN SOUTH INDIA by Ramnath on 2008-09-23 20:40:19.007321+05:30
India is probably the only country on Earth where the Semetic minorities continuously abuse and vilify them and get away because of 'secularism'. This has to end. Hindus will no longer be on the back foot. As regards the attacks on Churches, may Christians recall that they follow the murder of Swami Lakshmananda Saraswati. Christian Missionaries may be WARNED not to import the North East style CHRISTIAN TERRORISM in South India. But Christian missionaries do not seem to be in a mood to listen, one Christian bishop asked the CM what he will do if a Temple is attacked quite shamelessly hinting of reprisals. These Christian Missionaris are seeking to expand North East style Christian Terrorism in South India - let them know HINDUS WILL NEVER ALLOW THIS TO HAPPEN!!!
What a Liar by Indian on 2008-09-23 20:30:23.671777+05:30
What about goons of BJP/VHP/RSS/Bajrang Dal who are burning churches etc...this is nothing but hypocrisy...
