  • In the biggest seizure of wildlife in Agra in less than a week, two canter-trolleys full of consignment was found at the house of Brijesh Upadhyay, the man accused of dealing in endangered wildlife species. The Forest Department is now certain that Upadhyaya was into export of wildlife products.

The dead animals included saw-scaled vipers, pythons, cobras, hammerhead sharks, Western Ghat chameleons, magars, ghariyals, monitor lizards, squids, sea-horses, butterflies, jelly fishes, octopuses, stingrays and frogs, besides other invertibrate species.

According to the Forest Department, the number of each species ranges in thousands and took them the entire day to transport it to their office. Ghariyals, sea horses, pythons are protected under Schedule-I of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972 while chameleon, vipers and cobras are protected under Schedule-II.
