A resident of Lunkad Greenland, Viman Nagar, J K Vagher suffered a paralytic stroke a year ago. The 85-year-old has been regularly in touch, through post, with a few doctors in Germany and Bristol. However, it has been over a month now that he hasn't received the posts he should have.
"I don't mind if they are delivered late to me. My only fear is they should not be lost or destroyed," says Vagher , who is bedridden. Unable to visit the post office owing to his health, Vagher tried calling Dunkirk Post Office on 020-26632008, the number provided to him by the popular telephone helpline. Apparently, even the internet search for Dunkirk Post Office gives the same number. "Despite trying numerous times, the number was constantly busy," says Vagher, who later requested his friend P J Parmar to visit the post office.
Parmar has been facing the same problem — a delay in postal delivery — for the past two months. "The officials told me they are short-staffed and are giving priority only to speed post, registered post, money orders and parcels. Just because a couple of postmen fall sick, the whole distribution system can't go awry," said 70-year-old Parmar, a resident of Lunkad Goldcoast. Later, he visited the post office headquarters in Marketyard. "I was told that the complaint will be addressed," he added.
Just two days ago, B B Sajjan, another resident of the area who is also the general secretary of Senior Citizen Committee, Viman Nagar, received 16 posts in a day. "There were a few magazines that I was supposed to receive in the first week of September. It seems they have been accumulating the posts. I've been experiencing this problem for so long that I have given up and started communicating through phone or email," says Sajjan, adding that everytime his posts got delayed, he visited the post office.
