  • Upset at the authorities’ failure to add a woman’s name in her husband’s ration card, a couple attempted suicide at mamlatdar’s office in Khambhaliya town in Jamnagar district on Wednesday.

The couple who consumed sleeping pills to express their ire at the delay by administration has been shifted to government hospital. On the other hand, Khambhaliya mamlatdar has lodged a complaint against the duo and one more person in this regard.

According to case details, Madhusudan Agrawat (26) and his wife Aarti Agrawat (22) had applied for a visit visa for Tanzaniya to attend a marriage ceremony. As Aarti’s name was not included in her husband’s ration card, the couple had applied for the same on June 1 to the Khambhaliya mamlatdar’s office.

When despite repeated requests, no action was taken in their case, the couple attempted suicide by consuming sleeping pills at the mamlatdar’s office on Wednesday. Following the incident, both were immediately rushed to the government hospital and are under treatment, said sources.

He said though he told the couple that Aarti’s father has been asked to get her name cancelled from his (father’s) ration card, the couple behaved in an unruly manner.

Following the complaint Khambhaliya town police has registered the complaint under section 186 (preventing official from performing official duty) and 114 (helping each other in committing crime) of Indian Penal Code.
