Your DL at your doorstep,with a letter from the Chief Minister

Dont be surprised if you find a letter from the Chief Minister along with your new driving licence delivered at your doorstep.

The states transport authorities,while dispatching driving licences,have decided to include a message on road safety signed by Chief Minister Narendra Modi,urging people to drive safely.

If a message on road safety,signed by CM himself,is delivered to your doorstep,it will definitely have an effect, said Vadodaras Regional Transport Officer M M Makwana.

On Thursday,Collector Vijay Nehra inaugurated the new service of sending driving licences through speed post to new applicants at the Regional Transport Office.

The service will ease crowds at the RTO offices. It will also drive touts out of business. We assure that once fees are deposited and other criteria for a licence are met,we will send the licence in a weeks time to the applicants doorstep, Makwana said.

RTO officials said the additional cost of delivering a licence through speed post will be Rs 13 -15 in each case.

With the licence-issuing services outsourced to a private company in Gandhinagar,Makwana said the same would be replicated in Vadodara too. We are planning to introduce online application system for licences soon. Outsourcing some of our services is also a priority as we are facing staff shortage, he said.

Similar services were started in Ahmedabad,Surat and Rajkot about a month ago.
