Youth from 20 states to protest against corruption and ‘corporate plunder’

Leaders of the All India Students’ Association and the Revolutionary Youth Association on Monday announced a 100-hour protest campaign against corruption and corporate plunder.

Leaders of the All India Students’ Association (AISA) and the Revolutionary Youth Association (RYA) on Monday announced a 100-hour protest campaign against corruption and corporate plunder.

Members of both associations will be holding a 100-hour barricade at Jantar Mantar, beginning Tuesday. At least 10,000 youth activists from 20 states are expected to participate in the protest, which will continue till August 13.

Activists intend to persude Parliament for stronger measures against corruption. “The students of India demand an effective Lokpal Bill, which includes the PMO,judiciary and higher authorities under its ambit. The government must publish the black money list, which identifies those plundering public money,” said Sandeep Singh,President of AISA.

President of RYA Mohammed Salim said: “Though we don’t expect all our demands to be met by the government,we wish to create consensus among the public against the practice of corruption in our political system.”

The leaders of AISA and RYA also plan on continuing with this student-driven campaign after the end of the 100-hour barricade.

“If the government does not co-operate,we will collectively take measures to strengthen our movement. We will decentralise this campaign by holding large protests across villages and small towns,” said Ravi Rai,General Secretary of AISA.
