  • Yuvraj Singh, the dashing left-hander, is now the best seller in Indian cricket—at least if one goes by the sale of the bats he endorses.

Yuvraj’s range of cricket bats—the Yuvi 20/20—has recorded unprecedented success in the Indian market, overtaking all previous range of bats named after Indian cricketers and is now ready to go international. Australia will be the first port of call, and a popular internet auction site has priced the bats at Aus $99.

“We are overwhelmed with the response the SS Yuvi 20/20 bats got in the market. Yuvraj has put in a lot of effort in designing it, and he’s a huge hit with the younger generation.

“In fact it has overtaken sales of our previous range of bats named after (Sourav) Ganguly, (VVS) Laxman and (Virender) Sehwag,” said Jatin Sareen of SS Sports, the bat manufacturer.

Yuvraj is among the few Indian cricketers after whom a range of cricket bats have been launched. The Prince range of bats were named after Sourav Ganguly, Viru 309 was named after Sehwag’s triple ton against Pakistan while VVS 281 was launched in recognition of the famous Eden Gardens knock.

Earlier Sunil Gavaskar also had a whole range of bats in his name and many others like Mohammad Azzharuddin have endorsed cricket bats in the past.

Sareen said: “The good thing is that Yuvraj himself uses the same bat, weighing between 1250 grams to 1300 and young boys have seen him scoring runs in the last series with that bat.

    ... contd.
