Zero tolerance for crimes against women: Virbhadra

Joining the country's growing outrage on crime against women, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh— who on Monday addressed top government secretaries and heads of departments in his first meeting after taking over the government's charge — said there will be 'zero tolerance' on cases relating to all sorts of atrocities on women and girls.

Singh announced setting up of a committee under Chief Secretary Sudripta Roy to implement government orders relating to government and law enforcing agency's prompt action in cases involving any crime against women. The committee will meet periodically to monitor the situation and take appropriate action.

District-level committees will also be set-up for this purpose under deputy commissioners.

"The police authorities shall have to ensure registration of First Information Reports (FIR) and speedy investigation of trial of the accused committing crime against women," Singh said.

He said there would be at-least one lady constable at every police station and police chowkis to take care of the aggrieved women at the time of reaching the police station to lodge complaints.

'Corruption will not be tolerated'

"There will also be zero-tolerance against corruption. Any act of corruption or connivance will be dealt with strictly. The interest and welfare of the citizens were supreme and officers will have to ensure delivery of goods and services to the people efficiently, effectively and without any leakages," said Singh.

He directed that all the payments to suppliers should to be made through RTGS and no drafts and cheques were to be issued. Similarly, all individual benefits being released by the Social Justice Department, except pension, should also be released through RTGS in the bank account of the beneficiary.
