Datta Jadhav was first arrested last week after a class-VI student accused him of molestation. He was granted bail Sunday but was arrested again Monday after a class-VII student claimed she too was molested.
There was outrage as police also found indecent video clips of several girls on the cell phone of Jadhav, who has been booked under IPC sections for molestation and outraging the modesty of women and Information Technology Act, 2000.
Police are, however, seeking expert opinion on whether sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, 2012, can be applied in this case.
If that happens, Jadhav could become the first in Navi Mumbai to be charged under the law.
"It is a new law and we will have to understand it fully before invoking it. But we will definitely charge him (Jadhav) under it. We will speak to legal experts," said Pramod Shewale DCP (Zone II), Navi Mumbai.
Meanwhile, parents of several students marched to the school Monday afternoon and blackened the face of principal Vinita Patil, who was later arrested for allegedly abetting the crime.
"Investigation has revealed Patil would send girl students to the cabin of Jadhav and bolt the door from outside," said Shewale.
