Radhiika, the ‘abducted’ Kannada heroine’s story is a soap-writer’s dream. More than a week after her husband got a search warrant issued in her name, claiming her father had abducted her, she has resurfaced — with her parents — at a family court in Bangalore, pleading that the search be stayed.
Radhika’s mother even wants the two-year-old marriage annulled as, apparently Radhika was just 14 years old when Ratan Kumar ‘‘forcibly’’ married her. The family court has issued a stay and the Mangalore police have suspended their search.
Radhika, with one film Neela Megha Shyama slated for release in May and two others on the sets, disappeared from her husband’s house over a week ago. Her husband accused her father Devraj Shetty of having abducted her.
The heat now appears to have turned on Ratan Kumar and Prema, with Devraj claiming that Ratan had once tried to kill Radhika. ‘‘Ratan had made a futile attempt to burn her alive three months ago, but she had managed to come out unscathed,’’ he alleged.
He claimed that Ratan wanted to earn more money at the cost of his daughter and even pestered Radhika to accompany him to Mumbai.
