Jagtar Singh Hawara, one of the nine accused in the assasination of former Punjab chief minister Beant Singh, along with two others, tunnelled his way out of Burail jail near Chandigarh by digging a 94 ft long tunnel, running 14 ft below the ground

Natwarlal alias Mithilesh Kumar Srivastava walked out of Kanpur jail dressed as a Sub-Inspector, handed out an attache case of money to the guards, hailed a taxi and drove away. There were 100 cases against Natwarlal and he was wanted in 8 states and had been sentences to 113 years in jail. He staged 8 daring escapes from different jails

Sher Singh Rana, alias Pankaj, main accused in the murder of bandit-turned-politician Phoolan Devi escaped from the high security Tihar jail. He was taken away on a fake production warrant by his friends posing as policemen.
