The demand was for a temple to cut the chains of medieval Indian history and honour the Hindu lord. To provide protection to the status quo and give force to the demand of the minority Muslim population of the country was a huge gathered force of the state security forces. But neither the illegality (BJP and others had given assurances to govt and courts that movement would remain peaceful and destruction of edifice would be shunned) of the venture, nor the gathered authorities of India stopped the violence when it actually started, being mute witness to the deed of the destruction of the three domes that had for hundreds of years dominated the Ayodhya skyline.
