I never thought of quitting captaincy, says Ponting
Agencies Posted online: Tuesday, January 15, 2008 at 1827 hrs IST Perth, January 15: Not fazed with the charges of being arrogant on the field, Ponting made it clear that he never felt like giving up captaincy. "I didn't think about quitting captaincy. It did not get as bad for me," Ponting said. Though noted columnist Roebuck and hosts of former players believe Ponting led a team in Sydney that did not play the game in the true spirit, the host captain was far from fazed by the criticism. "Well, I did not have a sweet persona. I mean, I'm not racing to a news agency in the morning and buying the paper to see what it said. Lot of the stuff that was actually reported I saw in second hand, my wife reading the newspapers and the stuff," he told a TV channel. "While some of the criticism may have been fair, a lot of them were pretty unfair," he said. Primed to take on India in the third Test beginning Wednesday, Ponting said he was now looking forward. "Now it's time to get on and move on," he said. |
