The Finance and Contract Committee (F&CC) was set up by Mayor Hakam Singh Giaspura today. SAD councillors, Pal Singh Grewal and Simarjit Singh Bains, will be a part of the committee apart from the Mayor, Senior Deputy Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Commissioner.

The opposition seems surprised with the decision. Congress councillor and opposition leader Prem Mittal said, “We had given all the powers to the Mayor for the formation of the F&CC.He had ensured that one member from our party will be included. We are surprised at the decision”.

Mittal said, in the past, too, one councillor from the opposition party is included in the committee. He said this is for the first time that this has not been done.

The formation of the F&CC had been long pending because of which many development issues were also hanging fire. The F&CC meets once in a fortnight to pass estimates of various city projects and study their viability.

The Mayor also formed a House Tax committee. For this panel, the mayor has included two Congress councillors. For the first time, two councillors each have been deputed for a zone in the House Tax committee.

Congress councillor Bharat Bhushan Ashu and BJP councillor Pardeep Nagar have been deputed for Zone A and for Zone B, the mayor has deputed SAD councillor Malwinder Pal Singh Makkar and BJP councillor Santosh Kalra.

SAD councillors Harbhajan Singh Dang and Ranjit Singh Dhillon have been given the charge of Zone C while Congress councillor Raju Thaper and BJP councillor Gurdeep Singh Neetu have been deputed for Zlone D.
