Lucknow, March 27
In an attempt to provide smooth services, the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC) will introduce a number of online facilities. These will include billing, tendering and furnishing of birth and death certificates.

“A call centre will be set up to register people's grievances. The complainant will receive an ID number, through which he can check the status,” said Mayor Dinesh Sharma. “The idea is to make the LMC’s services transparent and consumer-friendly,” he added.

Sharma was addressing mediapersons after the LMC executive committee approved the annual budget for 2008-09.

The Mayor said the LMC would also focus on the projects under JNURM and Manyavar Kanshiram Samagra Vikas Yojna (MKSVY) schemes.

“The members of the executive committee, however, showed disagreement over the recent government order which says the works under MKSVY will be carried out from the share of stamp duty, earlier given to the local bodies. The matter will be discussed in the general meeting,” he said. “A new committee, comprising executive members and LMC officials, will monitor JNNURM projects," he said.

Though several projects have been proposed for the financial year 2008-09, most of them are a repeat since they could not take off. These included development of modern parking spaces, construction of a Management and Engineering College, Kanha Upvan for stray cattle, home for the handicapped and revival of ponds.

The Mayor, however, said the LMC has made tremendous progress in execution of last year's projects.

“We had to take a number of clearances which delayed work a bit,” he, however, added.

Municipal Commissioner SK Singh said the budget for engineering and management colleges has been increased. “Important projects will be completed on a priority basis,” he said.
