Kolkata, April 8
Justice Dipankar Dutta of the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday directed the state government to produce all the records related to visits made by Rizwanur and Priyanka to Lalbazar police station, in September 2007.

The court also directed Doordarshan, Kolkata, to produce the unedited video clippings of the September 23 press conference held by the then Police Commissioner, Prasun Mukherjee after Rizwanur was found dead.

Justice Dutta wanted to know why the couple was called by the police officials of Lalbazar on September 1, 4 and 8, 2007.

Advocate Samaraditya Pal, counsel of the police offficers, however, said that the couple was called following a complaint lodged by Asoke Todi, father of Priyanka Todi. He had alleged that his daughter had gone missing.

Pal argued that the police officials had played a role of counselors to settle the family dispute between Todi and Rizwanur. During the hearing, Justice Dutta asked the state government to file the records of all the complaints lodged by Rizwanur, Priyanka and Todi to the Commissioner of the Police.

Pal also claimed that Prasun Mukherjee had made a statement at a press conference on the death of Rizwanur on September 23, 2007, but media had distorted his remark. It was allegedly reported by media that Prasun Mukherjee said that Rizwanur’s was a “case of suicide”.

Justice Dutta has directed Kolkata Doordarshan to produce the unedited video footage of the press conference and also informed the court whether it will be available within April 15.

The matter will come up for hearing on April 22.
