Site Insight
One of the most important events of this year is the handing
over of Hong Kong to China. The United Kingdom will be transferring its
colony on July 1, 1997. While much has been written about the future of Hong
Kong, there is little information on its past.
The China Internet Corporation has launched a web site at
www.hk1997.china.com to ``enable people to understand the 150-year history
of Hong Kong.''
The result is a good effort which tells the story of Hong Kong in text and
pictures. The only drawback is that it is not an objective version, as the
tone of the narrative is distinctly anti-British.
Even so it is a useful site as it offers updates on the handover and
explains why China is so keen to have Hong Kong back.
