BJP demands market prices for acquired land in Konkan region

KUDAL, SINDHUDURG, May 11: The two-day meeting of the State Executive of the
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) concluded here today. Apart from the political
resolution, the party passed a resolution on the development of Konkan
region, demanding that compensation be paid (on acquisition of land by the
government) on prevalent market prices.
Briefing the press at the conclusion of the second session today, State
president Suryabhan Wahadne said several workers who spoke on the resolution
expressed concern for the environment. They also insisted that compensation
to locals for land acquired by the government for projects is paltry and
payment is delayed.
The party reiterated its demand for a separate Statutory Development Board
for Konkan. It also demanded a comprehensive and time bound programme for
the development of roads and ports, besides providing electricity and water
to the region, without which tourism projects were also incomplete.
The party has demanded a support price for agricultural produce of Konkan,
which are the mainstay of the region's economy. It has demanded storage and
cooling facilities for the region's fruit produce.
The resolution demanded the setting up of a Cashew Board by the State
government, considering the region's contribution to the country's total
cashew production.
The resolution also demanded the reforming of development norms as far as
Konkan is concerned. The resolution commended the State government's
initiative due to which power projects worth Rs 30,000 crore will come to
Konkan.
In a separate political resolution, the BJP State executives demanded that
government should take stern action and initiate thorough investigation in
the Somaiya Trust land scandal.
Similarly they have also demanded action and initiative in the multi-crore
shoe scam. Further, in the resolution the State party executives, supported
the alliance government for privatisation of roads and various other
infrastructural developmental projects.
