TN IAS officers demand clear-cut transfer policy

Radha Venkatesan

CHENNAI, May 11: Prompted by the controversial transfers of some IAS officers holding significant posts in Tamil Nadu in the past few months, the bureaucracy in the State is clamouring for a clear-cut transfer policy as recommended by the Fifth Pay Commission.

The recent extraordinary general body meeting of the state IAS Officers' Association saw a spirited debate on the frequent and arbitrary transfers of officers by successive political bosses. A unanimous resolution was passed urging the present Government to ensure ``decent'' tenure stability.

``If the Tamil Nadu Government is sincere about providing an efficient and transparent administration, it should first do away with arbitrary transfers,'' an office-bearer of the associationsaid.

Earlier, the executive committee of the association had submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister demanding that sub-collectors, additional collectors, collectors, department heads and secretaries be allowed to continue in their posts for at least two to three years.
