EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NAGPUR, May 12: Congress MP, Datta Meghe, has urged party president Sitaram Kesri to constitute the Vidarbha Regional Congress Committee before holding the party's organisational elections. In a letter to the Congress president, Datta Meghe said all MPs from the region have been agitating for the creation of separate Vidarbha state and the local party leaders have also demanded that the state Pradesh Congress Committee pass a resolution expressing their support. Meghe said the matter had been taken up with Sushil Shinde and he was expected to put forth the demand to Kesri. But the political developments in Delhi following withdrawal of Congress support to the Deve Gowda Government resulted in sluggishness in the movement. Meghe said he, alongwith his colleagues, is expected to meet Kesri soon.He said if it is not possible to constitute the regional committee they would demand the formation of divisional committee of Vidarbha Congress before June. He also hailed the entry of Sonia Gandhi into the party and said the party's image will receive a major boost. He asked Sonia Gandhi to take over the reigns of the party rather than remaining a primary member. Regarding the scheduled organisational elections, Meghe has hoped that the elections would be conducted in a democratic manner. Copyright © 1997 Indian Express Newspapers (Bombay) Ltd.
