UP to regularise holdings by labourers

LUCKNOW, May 12: The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to promulgate soon an ordinance to regularise agricultural and residential possession of land by landless agricultural labourers belonging to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe community and rural craftsmen till June 3 1995. A decision to this effect was taken at a cabinet meeting presided over by Chief Minister Mayawati here official sources said. Although the Uttar Pradesh Land Abolition and Land Management Ordinance 1995 was promulagated on September 12 1995, with a view to regularising agricultural and residential possession by landless agricultural labourers beloging to SC and ST community and rural craftsmen till June 3 1995, it could not be given effect.
