Tamil Nadu claim 3 titles

COIMBATORE, May 29: The hunt for the title is over. Hosts Tamil Nadu grabbed the lion's share claiming three of the four titles at stake in the National Children's Chess Championship organised by the Coimbatore District Chess Association at the PSG Tech auditorium here on Thursday. P Mahesh Chandran and CV Rajalakshmi, both from Tamil Nadu, bagged the under-14 boys and girls title, while MR Venkatesh of Tamil Nadu and Tania Sachdev of Delhi pocketed the under-12 boys and girls title respectively. Mahesh Chandran, a student of the SBOA MHSS, Chennai, defeated JM Utarid of Karnataka in 38 moves to emerge champion with 7.5 points from nine rounds. In the girls section, both Soumya of Maharashtra and C.V. Rajalakshmi of Tamil Nadu registered easy victories over their opponents and tied for the first position with 6.5 points from eight rounds. However, Rajalakshmi had a better progressive score.
