Raja for sporting pitches in India

NEW DELHI: Pakistan cricket captain Rameez Raja today called for more `competitive' one-day tracks to be laid in India which would take away the heavy dependence on winning the toss as seen in the just-ended Independence Cup Tournament.

``It should not be like this (wickets) where every time a team goes out to bat it has to come up with an extraordinary effort to win,' Raja told PTI summing up their trip before leaving for home this evening.

Rlys, A-I warned

BANGALORE: Indian Railways and Air-India teams were today issued warning letters, for different reasons, by Muneer Sait, the Tournament Director of the Punjab & Sind Bank 58th Senior National Hockey Championship being played here.

Railways coach Balwinder Singh was warned for using abusive language during his team's quarter-final encounter with the Indian airlines yesterday. He was warned that he would be penalised with a red card if he did not restrain himself.

Air-India was warned for having 12 players on the field and also for `non-adherence' of the technical table's instruction yesterday, during their match against Karnataka in the quarter-finals.

Fed Cup Carrom

NEW DELHI: Holders India will lead the challenge in the international Federation Cup Carrom Championship to be held at the Luton University Campus in Bedfordshire, UK, from July 21 to 23.

The Indian team will be announced next week.
