Separate air corridors for Delhi airport

NEW DELHI, June 27: In a significant decision, Prime Minister I K Gujral today directed Aviation authorities to provide an unrestricted uni-directional route for international flights to and from the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport at Delhi. The long-awaited decision is expected to improve safety standards as the separate routes for approaching and departing aircraft will help reduce the number of air-misses. While the IGI airport uses a single-corridor, which was cited as one of the reasons for the mid-air collision between the Saudi Jumbo and a Kazakh IL-76 , most international airports, have uni-directional traffic.
