Women's group stages dharna against dowry death

BANGALORE, June 26: Activists of Vimochana, a women's group, staged a dharna before the CoD-Anti Dowry Cell, demanding the arrest of a man on charges of murdering his wife because she had not brought enough dowry. The accused, a taxi-driver, has been absconding for almost a month. The victim was 19-year-old Chandrakala. The activists alleged the involvement of politicians in the incident. The investigating authorities had given a verdict of suicide despite the body having been found in a highly decomposed state, the activists added. They alleged that there had been a spurt in dowry deaths in the State of late.
