Uphaar cinema indicted in fire tragedy

NEW DELHI, July 3: The magisterial probe into the Uphaar fire tragedy has held cinema management, Delhi Vidyut Board, city fire service, police and municipal corporation responsible for the June 13 incident which claimed 57 lives. The report of the inquiry conducted by the deputy commissioner (South), Naresh Kumar, which was submitted to the city government today blamed the cinema authorities for losing precious time in alerting the fire service.The delay, the report said, was caused as the cinema management was attempting to control the fire on its own. It also accused the cinema management of not maintaining safety distance between transformer room and the car parking, besides violating the provisions of the Cinematograph Act, 1952.
