PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

NEW DELHI, July 3: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) today seized Rs 96 lakhs from an accountant of one of the directors of the CRB group, which allegedly defrauded investors to the tune of Rs 1,200 crore.

The money was allegedly given in the form of bank drafts by the director, PR Jain, who is at present in judicial custody, to the accountant for safe-keeping, a Central agency spokesman said.

With this seizure, the total money, including cheques, drafts and cash, recovered from the accounts belonging to the CRB group, which is facing winding up process in the Delhi High Court (HC) on a petition from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has gone up to Rs 9 crore.

Preliminary investigations showed that the drafts worth Rs 96 lakh were drawn by Jain under the name `MJ' and the drafts were later encashed by the accountant from whom the cash was recovered , the spokesman said.
