Anand held to a draw by Polgar

DORTAMUND, July 10: Indian Grandmaster Viswanathan Anand was held to a draw by Hungarian Judit Polgar as they tied at 3.5 points to breath down the neck of table-topper Vladimir Kramnik of Russia at the end of the fifth round of the Silver Jubilee International Chess tournament here today.

Anand and Polgar provided the first drawn encounter. Anand, playing black, employed Garry Kasparov's Dragon Variation in reply to the Yugoslav attack initiated by the highest rated woman player in the world.

From the 12th move onwards, she played Anand's moves from his match against Kasparov at New York and with Anand repeating Kasparov's moves, the tie drifted to an inconclusive end.
