FCI sold wheat with weed seeds to Southern States

CHENNAI, July 9: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) has sold nearly 4.5 lakh tonnes of imported wheat contained seeds of exotic weeds in the Southern non-wheat growing States through the open market and the public distribution systems, over the past four months. The FCI claims that this wheat is fit for consumption, unlike infested wheat which is not. Moreover, the amount of weed present in the wheat was within permissible level, added sources in FCI.
