Statescape -- HC declares bandhs illegal

KOCHI, July 28: In a landmark judgement, a full bench of the Kerala High Court on Monday declared that calling and enforcing of bandhs was illegal and unconstitutional and that the organisers were liable to compensate the State Government and the private citizen for the loss suffered by them. The bench dismissed the stand taken by various political parties , who are the respondents in the case, that the court cannot interfere in the matter under Article 226 of the Constitution. Two killed in Ludhiana blast LUDHIANA: Two persons were killed and three injured in a powerful bomb blast at the Inland Container Depot at Dhandari near here on Monday, police said. However, any terrorist hand in the blast, which occurred when imported iron scrap was being unloaded from one of the containers, has been ruled out, senior superintendent of police Dinkar Gupta said.
