NGOs bring relief to malnutrition-hit Melghat

AMRAVATI, July 28: The activists of Melghat Mitra which is committed to solve the problem of malnutrition in tribal dominated Melghat area, are getting good response to their work in the area.

Addressing a press conference here, Sushil Deshpande of the organisation said that like-minded people and organisations from Pune and Mumbai drew their attention towards Melghat, after learning about the problem of malnutrition in the area through newspapers. Three organisations namely Sampark (Mumbai), Arun Mangal Seva Vikas Yojana (Pune) and Dnyaneshwar Multipurpose Society (Amravati), joined hands to constitute Melghat Mitra which decided to work in malnutrition-affected area, he said.

Deshpande further informed that the newly-formed organisation has decided to start its work initially in seven villages including Chilati, Ruipathar, Domi, Sumita, Bhandum and Salita in Hataru area on the basis of the manpower and finance available with the organisation. The organisation will maintain a record of the number of kids and their health, in these villages besides making all-out efforts to improve the health of malnutrition-affected kids, he said.
