ERODE, July 26: The hostel for SC/ST students studing in various schools in Bhavani town is facing trouble owing to the lack of basic amenities for its inmates. The hostel, which was once the residence of the Bhavani Tahsildar, has only four rooms, of which one is used as an office-cum-store room and another is used as a kitchen. All the 54 inmates are housed in the remaining two rooms, which flood during rainy seasons. Moreover, there are no toilets or bathrooms in the hostel, and the students have to use the river for this purpose. It is ironic indeed that the State and Central government spend crores in implementing welfare schemes for Adi Dravidas while even such basic amenities are denied at the grassroots level.
