HYDERABAD, August 1: Nitin Mongia of Naval Sailing Club claimed the title even as Gautam Datta (EME Sailing Association) sprang a surprise by winning sixth race in the Doshi Ford National Inland Sailing Championship for Laser Standard Rig at the Hussein Sagar Lake here this afternoon. Defending championship Mahesh Ramachandran of Naval Sailing Club (Mumbai) finished second.

With winds gusting upto 18 knots, Nitin Mongia took a slender lead. But it was Dutta who took over the lead just after rounding the first windward mark.

Thereafter he never looked back and won the race without much ado. Mahesh finished second clocking 59 minutes 10 seconds.

RESULTS: Laser standard rig (sixth race): 1. Gautam Datta (EME) 49:01 mins, 2. R Mahesh (NSC, Mumbai) 50:10, 3. Nitin Mongia (NSC, Mumbai) 50:37, 4. Anirudh Vijay Kumar (SSC) 52:12, 5. Suheim Sheikh (SSC) 54:13, 6. Ram Kumar Singh (CESC, Pune) 55:13.
