Fourth title on the trot for Kumardeep

CALCUTTA, Aug 15: Kumardeep Chakraborty won the title in the under-12 age group of the British Chess Championship at Brighton today.

Kumardeep, who won the under-8, under-9 and under-11 championships during the last two years, defeated England's Krunal Kahar in the 7th and last round during the day to finish the championship with 6.5 points, according to information available here.

Kumardeep, who remained unbeaten in the championship, was accorded the title `Country Master' by the British Chess Federation. Kumardeep has also been selected to take part in the English Olympiad.

Two share lead

NAGPUR: P D S Girinath and Shankar Roy of Railways emerged joint leaders with five points each, while eight players followed them with 4.5 points apiece at the end of the fifth round of the BPCL FIDE Rating Chess Tournament here today. Top seed T S Ravi, V Sarvanan and International Master N Sudhakar Babu, managed to score full points, to follow the leaders.
