Jeev, Ghei make the cut

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA

SINGAPORE, Aug 15: Ace Indian golfers Jeev Milkha Singh and Gaurav Ghei returned impressive cards to make the cut in the US $500,000 Sing Tel Ericsson Singapore Open here today.

Jeev, who was unimpressive in the Sabah Masters in Malaysia last week, made a phenomenal rise to the 17th place today from a dismal 67th yesterday with a superb four under par 68.

Ghei, whose game has been on the rise this year when he qualified for the tough British Open to add to his earlier wins, shot a two under par 70 to also log 141 and share the 17th position with Jeev and nine others at the half-way stage.

But the other Indians in the fray -- Amit Chopra, Vivek Bhandari and Arjun Singh -- fared badly continuing their poor run.

Chopra, who occupied the 106th position, dropped down to 124, with an aggregate of 151. Four rungs below him was Bhandari with a four over par 76 (152). Arjun Singh (154) finished joint 135th.

Meanwhile, Ed Fryatt of Britain fired a seven-under-par 65 today to take the lead. Two strokes behind him at 136 was Myanmar's Zaw Moe.
