Short Corner -- Western Railway penalised

MUMBAI, August 15: Western Railway lose three points for playing an unregistered player -- Raman Verma -- in a Super Division match against Union Bank of India on August 5.

The WIFA Super Division League Committee, which met on Tuesday, took the decision while acting on a complaint made by UBI. WR had defeated UBI 1-0 in the match in which Verma played. No points have been awarded to either team.

MSSA inter-school road races

The Mumbai Schools Sports Association's second Inter-school road race for boys and girls under-16, under-14, under-12 and under-10 will be held on August 31 at Atomic Energy Junior College, Anushakti Nagar.

State triathlon meet on Aug 31

Maharahtra Triathlon Association will conduct the Maharashtra State Triathlon championship on August 31 at the Shivaji Stadium in Pune. The championship is open to all residing in the state and entry forms can be collected from the General-secretary, Maharashtra Triathlon Association, Mackinnon McCkenzie Building, 4, Shoorji Vallabhdas Marg, Ballard Estate, Mumbai. Last date for submission of forms is August 26.

BFRA elects new members

The Bombay Football Referees Association held its annual general body meeting on August 9. The new panel elected on the occasion include Alex Vaz (President), Tony Menezes (Vice-President), Freddie D'Souza (Vice-President), Vilas Rane (Treasurer), Santan D'Costa (Hon Gen Secretary) and Nitin Bhosale (Asst Secretary). Tony Rodrigues, Xavier Faria, Manuel Fernandes, Salim Abbas, Cajectain Pires and Elvis Nunes were elected as Commitee Members.

Inter-office TT tournament

The Inter office-Inter Clubs table tennis tournament will be conducted by the Mumbai Suburban District Table Tennis Association shortly.

Birla Gold cycle race in January

n The Amateur Cycling Association of Bombay Suburban District under the auspices of the Cycling Federation of India will be organising the Birla Gold Cycle Race starting on January 12, 1998. The 840 km long race will include the tour of Vidharba, split into six stages.
